Wednesday-7am

At 6:30am it was already 80 degrees and there's 94% humidity.  Karma lasted about five minutes on the porch and it wore her out.
 Drained, I'd say.
But the miniature rose plant seems to be loving this weather and is coming back to life out there!
It had some kind of teeny, tiny bugs and was dying fast.  I put it out on the porch and kept snipping off the dead sections.  Was sure it was a goner.  But then it started new growth a while back and when Leah was here a couple weeks ago she couldn't find any bugs any more (she worked in a plant nursery for a time).  I think this horrible weather killed them off--LOL!  I set the plastic pot inside of an ice cream pail to keep the moisture in and to prevent it from tipping over in the wind.  It is looking good.  I've got my fingers crossed.
So since the bugs appear to be gone, I decided to plant Karma some more cat grass.  In a few days she'll be wanting to go out no matter how hot it is out there--LOL!  ;)
Dagan stopped by after work last night with the new fan.  There's been a run on fans and air conditioners because of the heat and they only had a couple odd ones left.
I love my new little fan!  It can be made into an even shorter table fan, too.
Karma tried to fit into the empty box, of course.
Maybe it's just me (I do have a strange sense of humor, after all) but I saw this headline and photo on the new free weekly paper and it just made me giggle.  A child's wading pool and what looks like a movable puppy fence juxtaposed with the words "world-class otter exhibit"...well, I was chuckling all the way back from the mail box.  Looks like they have a long way to go.  I do love otters, though.
Groceries came and my bill was $35 less than ordered (which I expected being as it was right before the 4th and there's a run on everything), but there was nothing really essential missing that I couldn't do without for a month.  So...I jumped on my laptop and made a trip to Amazon.  Placed my special order--tada!
This wall shelf unit has adjustable shelves and is deep enough to hold CDs, as you can see.  And where is this going to go?  Here above my art table.  I'll have to find another special spot for Serena's beautiful daisy painting.
It's big!  Will go past the art table on the left side and be fairly high up because of the thermostat, but I'm short on one end and would need a stool to reach anything but the bottom shelf or two regardless, so what the heck.  ;)
I plan to fill it up with art supplies!  Bottles and misters and all sorts of art paraphernalia!  I am so excited!!!  :):)  And, hopefully, in August I plan to order one more bookcase for the hallway by my bedroom door.  I used to have one there for years, but moved it into the living room when I got rid of the 30 gallon aquarium.  This is why I have been postponing the big art and craft reorganization over here.  Waiting until I could slowly get these bigger storage items.  Whoohoo!  Well, I warned you it was probably only exciting to me...and probably Leah.  ;)
****
This shelf unit is heavy to begin with and will hold a lot, so Leah (our tool girl) will be the one to figure out how to secure it up on the wall.  We may need an extra piece of wood.  Leah will look it over once it gets here (says between the 12th-18th).
****
What else did I order with my shelf unit?  The other chair cover to match (tada!), a couple books, and a set of doilies.  I wanted to get books on zentangles and mandalas since I am working on those kind of projects lately and know very little about them.  The rest is not supposed to come until the end of the month.  I clicked send in the least amount of packages and maybe I shouldn't have--LOL!  I think I'm waiting on the chair cover, but that's okay.  I'm not going anywhere.  ;)
****
I woke up with this song in my head.
I do so love Simon and Garfunkel!  But I'm not sure why I woke up singing "Old Friends"?
****
Having the three fans completed the cool air U-turn and it was a more comfortable night sleeping than I've had in a week--nice!!  Thanks, Dagan and Leah!!
****
If it is not raining or too cloudy I can sit at my craft table by the window in the air conditioning and watch three separate fireworks displays across the horizon tonight.  Looks iffy, though.  We have possible thunderstorms every day until the weekend.  I know a lot of places are too dry to have fireworks this year...and some will be too wet.  Regardless, have a wonderful night!  Happy Fourth to the people in the US (and Canada just had theirs, too).  :) :)

I like that new shelf unit you are going to get Rita! Glad you were able to get it this month! The fan looks good too! Wow so hot so early in the morning! Reminds me of when we lived in Oregon and Montana; I'd get the kids up early so we could go to the park before it got too hot.

How cool you can see those fireworks from your place. You get the view of them without the traffic :)

Have a Happy Fourth!

Cats and boxes - I love making cardboard cubbies for my kitty. Cheap fun for the whole family!

LOVE your organisation plans - can't wait to see the final result, AND the resulting works of art!

Dear Rita, I so like that quote from Joseph Campbell. It's seem so appropriate for me right now where I am in my life. Thank you.

And thank you also for sharing "Old Friends" with us. Like you, Simon and Garfunkle are favorites of mine.

I'm glad to hear that you are making your workspace work for you!

The three cats here so like the air conditioning. Before I put it on a few days ago, they were panting and I realized how hot they must be. So I flipped the level and Voila! cool air. How blessed I am to be able to afford to have air conditioning. Already several people have died from the heat here in the Kansas City metro area. So sad.

Peace.

Nice shelf unit, Rita. I'm sure you will put it to good use, and that fan! It's a good one, it looks like. And being able to use it right away, thanks to Dagan, is a real bonus! Happy Independence Day, Rita! :-)

You will make good use of that unit, Rita. I have something very much like it for keeping my bits and pieces in and it is SO useful! There is much more room than I thought too.

I hadn't heard that song before, but I'm sure I was born in the wrong time anyway!

Hope you have a great day!
Hugs to you both!

Well that's strange. Old Friends was running through my head yesterday morning. I saw Simon and Garfunkels reunion concert in Toronto about 8 or 9 years ago and they opened with that song.

Karma looks utterly wiped!

I like the looks of that shelving unit, too. My first thought was...how is she gonna attach that to the wall? LOL Will be on the lookout for that post. :)

I'm glad Dagan and Leah were able to bring you a fan, and I'm glad you were able to get a better night's sleep last night.

It's hazy, hot, and humid here today. The needle on the thermometer on my front porch is sitting on 90 right now. I've been in and out a lot today, but I've spent most of the day inside. We're to go to my niece's in a couple of hours for a picnic and fireworks display. Hot day for a picnic, but they have a couple of tents to shield us from the sun. Still gonna be hot out there, tho. We had a couple of rain showers last night, but they didn't last very long. Just hoping the rains hold off tonight until after they shoot off the fireworks.

Stay cool and happy 4th!

Laughing my head off at all the pictures of karma, poor dear looks like she has been on an all nighter partying the night away in the first 2 and the other one of her trying to get in the box made me laugh so hard my head hurt, I'm sorry karma, not sure whose bottom is bigger, yours or mine? lol Oh dear! Anyway glad you got an extra fan and have a nice place to watch the fireworks, i'm so tucked away in the trees that I'll be able to hear them but not see them! Happy 4th and waving hi from the hills of North Carolina with a hot dog in one hand and a flag in the other! :) #37

Yeah, apparently sunbathing is exhausting... LOL!

Glad you have your new fans and can enjoy some coolness. We need a new fan (or a few of them). Our old one was broken so didn't come with us. Thankfully it hasn't been so hot it's been an issue (yet) but we need to get at least one since I'm sure that will change soon.

Enjoy your new craft goodies! :)

P.S. my books are half price this month because of a July offer Smashwords does; I did a post about it on July 1st if you want to take advantage of the offer.

Poor Karma looks very hot, I will gladly take some of your heat. We are having a record cold snap and it is just freezing. I live in the sub tropics and it has been going down to 5 degs overnight and not going above 20 in the day, we don't own heaters here.
Love your daisy painting.
Have a great day.

I'm surprised your rose plant is loving the humidity as they hate it here. Too humid and roses usually end up with black spot here...they lose all their leaves and look quite dismal. I gave up trying to grow roses years ago.

YAY on getting the new fan!

It kinda make me sad to see the otters in a child's wading pool...a far cry from their natural environment. I do see the humour in their wording tho.

The wall shelf looks fantastic and, as soon as I saw it, I thought "Rita won't be using that for CDs". lol It looks like it will fit perfectly above your art table.

I love Simon and Garfunkel too..my fave song was Bridge over Trouble Water.

I hope you had a Happy July 4th!!!

Love and hugs,
Serena xo

I also like the look of that wall shelf I would love something like that in my house. That miniature rose plant looks really nice, great that is has a second chance at life.

Damn Karma has a long tail.......and that "world-class" exhibit is anything but in my opinion and I also think it is funny........

I love your cat's name! I could use a fan myself. Maybe it is time I break down and buy one. Think I may!

Love the shelf! And of course, the pics of Karma :)
I think your Rose is doing great, you must have a green thumb :)
Happy 4th to you :) I got to see some fireworks close by, awesome!

Wow! I faintly remember what it's like to feel too hot for comfort. But this Summer in England, we're experiencing floods all over the country--and more are forecast. Lucky for me, near London is free from rising water.

Your shelf unit looks like it is going to be very useful. I have a tiny work space with stuff hiding out in boxes and drawers. I think it is helpful to have it out where you can see it and be inspired.

I'm going to have that song running through my mind all day now! I'm a big Simon and Garfunkle fan.

That shelf is perfect. I think I'd have to put it in the hallway where I could reach things, though. You are so much shorter than me (I'm 5 ft. 3 1/2), I can't imagine trying to reach over the desk!

Hope you saw some fireworks last night. We sat in our easy chairs in MO and watched the festivities in NY. Now that's the way to do it!

I am amzed the roses like the humidity... we can never grow them here, but maybe they just don't like sustained humidity... as to Karma and the box... how funny... Mushu is scared of them!!!! such a wimp...xx

Karma looks Kooked. Its really hot here too... not very pleasant.

I would think cramming oneself into a box (at least) two sizes too small would be slimming. Maybe Karma's trying to find some sexy to wear... any guy kats kalling at odd hours?

I love the wall shelf unit! I could use one of those, but I would put cd's in it!

Poor Karma... she looks just as I would if I had to spend any amount of time in that kind of heat!!

Sounds like you were hit with the same type of weather we had here last week as well. Hope you were able to see some fireworks. No luck here with fireworks...it was just way too hot and humid. Safer (and cooler) to be inside.

Your shelf looks so sleek and modern. That's a lot of CDs! You must love music! :)

Karma is such cute kitty! It's so adorable when they try to stuff themselves into boxes like that.

Your shelf looks like it will be really nice.
