Friday-9am

Good morning!  It's 5 degrees and we got another thin layer of snow.
These dustings have added up to just enough depth to encourage children's footsteps.
The mystery building across the way is now three stories high.  I feel badly for the people who have been out working on it when it's been below zero out there and windy!
This has already been a Christmas season filled with gratitude.  I'm especially, especially grateful that angels were watching over Dagan and Leah and their three other young passengers Sunday night as they were traveling cross country from Dagan's Dad's to see a movie...
and hit a deer.
Leah said their Versa did just what it was supposed to--the front end crumbled and kept them all safe from harm.
They had the car towed to Fergus Falls.
I don't think they are going to see it for a while.
But they were all safe and no one was hurt--except the deer and the car, of course.  So Dagan and Leah had quite an exciting Christmas that they won't forget any time soon!
****
Karma and I, on the other hand, had our quiet Christmas.  I watched my two favorite movies I have on DVD that I watch every year--It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story.  And Christmas Eve night I opened the presents from Tori in England for Karma and me.  Tori has lost both her eyes from glaucoma and yet she knit this mouse (I bet it's her own invented pattern, too) and sewed the parts together.  She made the tea light candle, too.  I also got an angel bookmark...
...and Karma got two packages of treats!  Tori even makes her own cards.  :)
Thanks, Tori!  (She doesn't blog anymore, but I'll thank her anyways.)
Karma has been sleeping with the red mouse.
I kind of took my own vacation for several days from the McLap.  I was a lazy bum this week--just contentedly watching movies, reading, writing letters, and just hanging out with my moody fur-buddy.  Caroline came on Wednesday.  Yesterday I spent the whole day quickly catching up online.  Today...probably time to get something creative started. ;)
****
Just been a sweet week.  A week to be thankful in so many ways.  Bless you!!  Be safe.  Be happy.  May your life be filled with joy!  A new year is upon us!  :)

That's quite a lot of damage to the car. I hope the deer didn't suffer for too long. :(

I adore the photo of Karma and her mouse. It's so cute and clever. And I like the idea of a cross-species relationship. I swear next year I'm going to figure out a way to make a card to send to you even if it's just a folded sheet of printer paper with my pathetic drawing of a cat and a Christmas tree. The funniest card I ever received was of a cat looking at a Christmas tree and the tree had signs on it offering varying numbers of points to the cat for reaching certain items on the tree. Of course the star on the top was worth 100 points. We got that card the year Milhous climbed the tree and stole the angel from the top and bit off her face. Poor little angel. Five degrees sounds hideous. It's 52 here and we're freezing to death. When it turns hot again in May someone will find our frozen bodies in our little house -- me and the three Z-Boys.

Love,
Janie

Glad you enjoyed a peaceful week. We had quiet too and we like it that way. I have been walking, it is mild windy and wet with no snow in the offing. I will just enjoy yours. The gifts you received are extra special and you will undoubtedly treasure them. Have a good new year.

Oh, my goodness, I was so scared when I saw the pictures of the damaged car and I am so happy that everything went well with your children.
I like the pictures you always take from the view out of your window very much. They convey a special atmosphere and make me feel like one of your neighbours just listening to you. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I'm so relieved everyone was okay after the collision with the deer. Sadly, roads and wildlife don't mix well and, I too, hope the deer didn't suffer for long. Always sad when a life is lost, be it human or animal.

Brad and I watched It's a Wonderful Life a couple of nights before Christmas...such a lovely movie.

What nice gifts from Tori too and how sweet is that photo of Karma with her new snuggle pal?! Adorable!

Self-imposed vacations are often the best! Now that Aaron is on school holidays, we don't have to stick to set schedules so that is like a vacation in itself. :)

Enjoy your weekend ~ xo

oh boy...wow, the car sure crumpled...at least the kids are alright! (hey, isn't that a WHO song??!)
i always worry when i drive at night, about a deer jumping into the road...so far my only scares have ever been squirrels, turtles, snakes & raccoons!! (ok, why is blogger underlining 'raccoons'...how else is the plural of raccoon spelled? RACCOONi?? haha. don't think so!)

love the snowy pic's!! makes me want to get out there and make snow angels!! BBbbbbrrrrr!!

Glad your family is safe. I always worry about deer when I am in the mts.

What amazing gifts made by someone without sight. Precious mouse.

Glad you can stay in and just look out the window at the snow. That is my favorite way to enjoy the white stuff.

Wow that looks like a nasty smoosh. I'm so happy to hear that everyone was kept safe. Shame about the car and deer though.
What special gifts to receive. I think that's the true spirit of Christmas.
Karma looks very smitten with her pressie. ^..^
Have a wonderful New Year and I'll catch up with you again in 2013.
I've got to find out what that building is if nothing else...the suspense is killing me!

Wow, so sorry to hear about Dagan and Leah's accident, but happy to know they're okay and no one was hurt. That car hood looks pretty crumpled. :(

Aww, what a sweet little mouse. Tori is rather amazing. A good person with a good heart. Those are nice gifts. :)

Terri works outside every day. It gets mighty cold in the winter, even here in Pennsylvania.

What a scary experience for Dagan and Leah!

Their car did have quite a bit of damage from the deer.

Happy to hear they are safe and healthy, though.
