Thursday-11am

This really is going to be short.  I have inherited Dagan's old laptop (only a couple years old and waaaay younger than any other electronics in this house).  I still have my McLap for backup, but I am trying to use this rust colored laptop and learn Windows and how to type.
The scroll doesn't work on the keyboard pad and I can't get it to work on the tablet version--so I can't even center my post.  And I have to reach up and scroll on the screen.  Next time Leah is here or if Dagan will come over maybe they can fix that.  It is driving me crazy!
Well, the whole laptop is driving me crazy, to be honest.  But I knew that would happen going back to windows.  The keys are all different and so many things are in the wrong places...I type and hit the wrong keys and whole sentences can disappear or I'm writing on the wrong line.  The delete and backspace are direct opposites from Mac to MS...along with a lot of other things...like the little corner X is in the opposite corner.

and I don't know how I just started writing beside a picture.  Leah put the picture of Ian on the laptop--with his new mower.  :)  The keyboard on this one folds all the way back on itself and then it turns into a tablet.

I am constantly touching something wrong and things disappear or pop up.  This is going to take a long time.  I am reading blogs, but rarely commenting.  This is why.  If I haven't replied to blog comments--this is why.  If I don't post for a while--this is why.  And now my pictures show up on One Drive instead of Dropbox--so that is all new, too.  I am lost in a new land.  Going to take a while for me to learn how to live in Microsoftland.  Try not to picture me crying...even if that has happened a couple times already.  Those of you who have been with me since the beginning may remember how I wanted to throw McLap out the window for months because it wasn't Windows--LOL!  So, I know that eventually I will adjust back.  But I also know it might take a few months.

The scroll won't work so I can't enlarge the print or change the color.  No quote--forget it.  Just wanted to let you know why I won't be around much for a while.  I shall be in lurker mode for some time.  I'll probably practice typing by making short comments here and there and answering emails.  I can't NOT answer emails.  :)  But I am not sick and Miss Karma is fine.

The end.

Took me half an hour to go back and fix this so you can read it--LOL!

  1. AAAAK! It looks like it has Windows 10 too. I think Iggy knows of a way to make it look more like 7 or 8 and still be a 10. I am so not looking forward to when I have to update...I have the Ipad but I have not tried to write a blog post with it yet...but I am certain it will be an adventure.
Hang in there Rita! You CAN do it! :)

    1. Yes you can make Windows10 look like windows7. You can even make it look like Mac X too.

      What model is MacLap?

  2. It is readable and sounds just like my favorite shut-in. It WILL get better. I can't imagine going back to Windows after being a Mac person for a decade. :-(

  3. I'm sure you'll eventually get the hang of it, but computers have changed so much in the last couple of years. I am not looking forward to when I need a new one.

  5. I know exactly how you feel, except the opposite. When I was using my friend Sally's PC, it was a Mac and I had a hard time learning how to not delete something I was trying to type.

At least I had a real PC at Sally's and not a laptop. I can't work those things they call a sort of mouse, because my fingers are so bent from arthritis. And don't ask me to use a touch screen cause that will never happen, either. I wish you all kinds of luck with your new toy.

  6. It took me over a year to get used to my laptop and Windows 8. I didn't dare risk getting Windows 10.
Take your time and be patient...it MIGHT all work out...

After my cat Bosco sat on my keyboard the scroll stopped working, but when I rebooted it worked again. I'm sure there's probably a way to fix the scroll on your laptop - but unfortunately I have no advice.

  8. Congratulations on the new-to-you laptop! You sound like me when I sit down to something on Bradley's MAC after being so used to my HP Windows computer...the MAC's compact keyboard is so frustrating for me and I'm constantly pressing the wrong keys. haha You will get used to it though. I LOVE OneDrive! Use it for my phone and iPad as well.

I hate the finger-pads on laptops so I always attach a computer mouse...makes life so much easier. You may find that easier too?

Good luck learning it all again.

    Have a great weekend!

    Love and hugs xo

  9. Finally getting around to catching up on my blogs. Hope you are working out the little tweaks of Windows. But it is exciting to get a laptop. There's always a learning curve, isn't there? Hugs-Erika

  10. Oh Rita! I was so determined to get to your blog while I am home this time! We seem to spend more time away from home than we are here - only snag is - no internet useless we go to cafe or are on the road! I sympathise with you! We have always had Macs at home but when I was teaching I had to use Windows - I don't think I would know what to do now though - like yourself it would take me a while!
Hugs, Chrisxx ps Thank you for continuing to visit me even though I am so rubbish at returning the compliment often! X

  12. Oh, yikes. When we bought our current laptop (about 2 years ago), Phil wanted me to get one with the touch screen and Windows 8. I said no way Jose! I wanted to stick with windows 7 and use a computer the old-fashioned way!! I don't like change when it comes to my electronics. In my experience, change has not been positive! good luck Rita!!

Just a note: I don't pass on awards or do tags, and I no longer comment on blogs that have word verification (see top right hand corner of my blog). So if you haven't heard from me that's probably why. Sorry.

I read and appreciate each and every comment, but it became too overwhelming to personally respond to each one like I used to here in the blog comment section. I will answer questions and communicate via email, though, if you have an email address listed on blogger and I do try to respond to every comment.

Have a really great day! Karma says hi! :) :)
