Friday-9:45am

I have one rose left that hasn't collapsed yet.  I moved it into a bud vase.  The rest of them are hanging upside down drying in the laundry closet.
Sometimes I wonder what cats are looking at?

Or looking for?  Maybe she's still looking for moths?  LOL!  (I've been keeping the porch door shut so the moths have been trapped outside.)
****
I haven't mentioned movies for a long time and have seen some pretty interesting ones this past month.  Netflix, of course.  New ones and a few older ones.
****
These were via the mail:
Albert Nobbs (2011)
State of Play (2003-British miniseries)
Zen (2011-new British series)
Angels Crest (2011)
****
These were on the instant movies:
Following (1998)
****
No blockbuster comedies in there.  But, honestly, the comedies I have seen lately, like Carnage (a comedy/drama, I guess) and Bridesmaids...I just don't find that kind of humor very funny.  Vomiting, belching, casual sex, drunkenness, fighting...seems to be the direction most of the popular humor is going these days.  I keep renting one now and again when they're raved about...parts of them may be okay, but I'll pass.  Just not for me.  Even though they are, obviously, very popular with a lot of people.
****
I miss when movies and TV shows generally had a bit cleaner humor and less gross out or shock tactics (not that they're the least bit shocking).  Shows that I could giggle all the way through or get a couple good belly laughs from that weren't so demeaning, negative, and insulting, you know?  I never liked that kind of sophomoric humor when I was young.  Not a Three Stooges fan, for example.  I know...I know...they are loved.  But I always preferred a more gentle humor that came from knowing the characters themselves...like Andy Griffith, Leave It To Beaver, or Mary Tyler Moore.  I even much prefer the darker more tragic humor...like in Mash or in Everything Is Illuminated...to fart jokes.  Maybe I am a bit warped myself?  Oh well.  Different strokes for different folks, I guess.  Any laughter is good medicine, right?
****
Anyways, I hope the links worked this time.  :)
****
Been in the 60s and 70s--ahhh!  Even clouded over, I love it!  I worked on the Circle Letter for a couple days and got that off in the mail.  Been in a letter writing focus the past couple weeks...and puttering my days away before I know it.  :)  Today the sun is shining through big fluffy white clouds.  I am always behind reading blogs, so I think I will do some blog checking while I eat lunch today.  :)
****
But first, Karma is very restless this morning and so I'm going to run around the apartment with her string toy for a while and wear us both out--LOL!  ;)
****
Have a good one!!

Cats look at... dust mites. The sun rays. Things on a level we cannot see yet. Or she may simply be zoning out. Gnats. A fly.

You made me giggle about Bridesmaids. I didn't particularly care for it either.

If you want a heart touching movie... get War Horse. That one was SO AWWWW.

I'd be interested in hearing your take on In The Valley of Elah!

I must be really out of the loop because I have only heard of ONE of those movies, and I haven't seen it, lol! Sorry you didn't find anything that fit you. At least you didn't buy them. That always ticks me off when I buy a movie "I KNOW" I'll love, then don't and there went $20!! Renting or downloading is probably the smarter thing!

Karma is a cat and therefore endlessly fascinating!

Enjoy the cooler temps! More rain over here!

I often wonder the same thing about dogs: what are they looking at? ;)

I've haven't seen any of those movies, but I loved MASH! It was one of my favorite shows.

Temps in the 60s and 70s sound perfect! It's nearly 90 here today--way too hot...

Have a great day!

I love the series of pics of Karma. It would be interesting to know what she is thinking.

The rose is very pretty and holding up well.

You know, I totally agree about each and everything you mentioned! Movies are made theses days are not ones that interest me, I'd rather read a good book. Have fun running with Karma~!!

We don't have a Video Rental shop anywhere near us, so we have to go on reviews and buy them. So we have a huge D.V.D. collection! I even get my mom to send me Canadian shows and whole series!
I used to enjoy "Slings and Arrows" and The Red Green Show.
Not that I watch much T.V. except a few documentaries that we want to watch. I find American humour too repetitive...no offence intended, but they all seem to be the same. I do like The Big Bang Theory though.
Your single rose looks beautiful and reminds me of a saying. "There was once a man who sent his love a dozen red roses, swearing he would love her until all the roses withered and died, but among the roses was one artificial one...so his love for her never died."
Hope you and Karma have a great day!

It's not just you; I don't think those kinds of things are funny either. I mean, the odd joke where something sexual is implied but not said can often be funny. But the things people consider funny these days are disgusting!

Karma is adorable ~ they know 'how to live' ~ my favorite is a bud vase with a single rose ~ lovely ~ as for movies ~ haven't watched any lately ~ but did buy some cheap ones at Target ~ May watch one this weekend ~ will see ~ have a magical and loving weekend ~ thanks, namaste, ^_^

I haven't seen many of those movies. I enjoyed Albert Nobbs and thought it was very well done. And I feel the same way about those comedies. I didn't like Bridesmaids at all and was surprised that people raved about it. One of the funniest movies I've ever seen was Steve Martin in All Of Me. Did you ever see it? You should rent it if you haven't. I still smile, just thinking about it! :-)

I think In The Valley of Elah is very moving, and I like Everything Is Illuminated. I think we have similar taste.

I also wonder what cats and dogs are looking at, I am like you I have never been a fan of the Three Stooges and I am not a fan of many of the so called comedy movies that come out now the same can be said for the so call sitcoms that are big now days. I do not understand why there has to be so much swearing in a movie to make it a good movie. Really some of the best movies are the older movies........

I bought "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" when it came out on DVD but I haven't watched it yet. I usually love Tom Hanks' films.

Hope you have a great weekend! (it's gonna be hotter here the next couple of days)

Yes Rita, everyone seems to have a different sense of humour. I like slapstick humour. I liked the Marxs Brothers, Laurel and Hardy, more recently the British "Last of the Summer Wine", etc. I like humour where the comedien leaves out the punch line for the audience to guess - Dave

I think Karma is looking at spirits. Animals seem to see so much more than humans.

thanks for the movie recommendations. My husband and I have our regular Sat night date and we usually do dinner and a movie. So I have seen a ton of movies. Some good, a lot bad but I totally agree with you on comedies. The best comedy I have seen lately was "Date Night" not so much of the "toilet bowl humor." :-)

oh Rita, that last quote was hilarious. Yes. I hear ya. Funny you mention the movie EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED. I bought the book at a second hand store like 6 months ago and still haven't read it! I may finally get to it now... :-) Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend, sista! xoxo

Dear Rita, I think cats can recognize the poltergeists that live among us!!!!!

As to the movies: I'm with you regarding what seems to be humorous to a lot of people but not to me. I miss Carol Burnett, Imogene Coca, Sid Caesar, and Flip Wilson. Also Rowan and Martin. All of them found humor in the human condition, not in what seems to me to be humor that fifth graders would enjoy.

So maybe, Rita, we're in the minority here. I don't know. What I do know is that all of us truly like to laugh and as you say, laughter is such good medicine that whatever works for us is a plus.

Peace.

The only movie I've heard of, and have seen, from your list is 'In the Valley of Elah'...very moving and sad in areas.

I don't find that type of 'shock' comedy funny either....it's downright stupid to me.

I used to LOVE watching the Mary Tyler Moore show! I was never one for the Three Stooges humour. I LOVED most movies starring Don Knotts. The Ghost and Mr Chicken was one of my favourites.

I hope you and Karma enjoyed a nice rest later.

Love and hugs,
Serena xo

Cats see things we cannot:)
Ghosts perhaps!

I don't watch many movies..I don't like the scary ones or the science fiction ones or the blood and guts ones..doesn't leave too much:)

Gosh, it is SO good to hear someone else say just what I think when it comes to movies. Those gross out movies started with "what about mary" and just kept going. I've never watched one fully, only snippets when they come to tv. NEVER funny. Just not my humor. I LOVED Mash, still watch it when it's on sometimes. Three's company or Mary Tyler Moore were good, Lucy was great. I even like the British Monty Python stuff but not the new sense of humor. GIve me movies like Steve Martin's movie Roxanne any day.

Thanks for commenting on my blog, the birthday video I did for Phantom Steve made me laugh so hard (speaking of good humor, lol)

Give Karma a scritch for me!
Best,
Jenn

It can be embarrassing when someone catches you running/playing with the cat toy...

Have a great week Rita!

I'm with you on the films. Can't stand gratuitous smut and dislike violence. I like the darker stuff as well as intelligent humour. There are still one or two gentle comedies about.

Cats don't think, they just contemplate.

Melissa Ann Goodwin said...

Cats are so "in the moment" aren't they? It's hard to find really good movies - I enjoy ones that are just really good stories about people and life, not all that wild animation or silly humor. Sigh. I very much enjoy the series Zen. Did you see Birdsong on Masterpiece Theater - only two episodes and a wonderful WWI/love story. I'm trying to be more like cats - in the moment, and appreciating everything.

Celticspirit said...

Karma is such a special spirit....I'm sure she can see into the world beyond. Cat's are so intuitive.
That looks like an interesting mix of movies. We don't have Netflix and I miss it. We have cable but I still prefer the Netflix because you can watch things when you want to. The Cable does have an on demand section where you can choose from lots of tv shows, series and movies for free so that is not too bad.
I hope your week is a good one Rita!

I've always wondered what cats stare at also. My three are crazy and make mad leaps at things I can't see. Oh wait. I can't see anything. Maybe they are actually chasing something . oh well.

Good idea to save and dry the roses. I think cats have such sharp eyes they see stuff like dust motes.

we loved State of Play and Zen and there was another one at around the same time as state of play called State of Play with Ben Daniels and Jason Isaacs... it was just awesome...xx

I agree re: older shows. In the Twin Cities, there's a station that plays comedies from the 70s - like Mary Tyler Moore. Watched an episode of that and Bob Newhart and just laughed. Classic...good...comedy. Did you ever watch the Carol Burnett show or the Donnie and Marie show? I remember watching those shows when I was growing up and thought they were so funny. The latter show I liked the synchonized swimming and costumes also. Thanks for post which jogged some good memories for me. :)

I'm with everyone who says cats are watching the spirits among us. Always gives me the shivers when I watch the cat watching something--wish I could get into the right frame of mind where I could see them, too.
