Good morning!
Another recovery week for me.
Stitches out on Thursday. This was before I left.
This was after I got home. I forgot to ask the lady to count the stitches, but I think there were 21. If you count the long running stitch across the top as separate stitches.
Upper lip still protruding and drooping on that side...and cheek is swollen. Numb in several places. Like when you come home from the dentist and it's hard to drink because you can't feel half your lip and part of your cheek. Nerves have to reprogram. They are zipping and zapping about so that's a good sign, I would think. Not sure how much is swelling and how much is the moved harder skin graft, actually. Time will tell. But I think she did a decent job. It should look better in a couple of weeks, I would think. All new to me--lol!
That same night we had a wicked thunderstorm come through around midnight. I was pretty well shot and had just gone to sleep when the storm was hitting. Didn't hear the later tornado sirens, but there were three people killed west of Fargo. High winds in town here.
McFamily...Leah said they heard the next-door neighbor's trampoline bang into the house!
The trampoline was from that grey house in the center back there.
They're sooo lucky it hit the drain pipe (really dented, twisted, and flattened it) instead of the siding or a window!
[Note: The neighbors carried it home the next day...destroyed...bent up and has holes. They had to dismantle it. Done for!]
Anyways, was definitely time to grab the boys and head downstairs for a good hour till the storm passed. They were sitting around on my living room carpet--lol! Was even hail, I guess. I slept through it all...even with Leah texting me one time--lol! When I didn't answer they figured I might be asleep. Yup!

The next day they noticed this protection screen contraption that Ian had over his beets in the garden bed to save them from the birds had completely blow away. (Yes, "his" beets...he loves beets but no one else can stand them.) Couldn't find it anywhere. But then later Ian spied what looked like it way over in the field behind their house.
Yes! Rescued and was okay. So they were very, very lucky only the drain pipe was damaged. Things got blown about quite a bit but were all okay--chairs and such. :)
They go every so often to see a movie on Tuesday nights when they have kids movies. It was How To Train Your Dragon last week...with free paper Viking-like helmets!
BUT...because it was Ian's birthday and they had his birthday party at the house on Sunday...(Leah makes the cutest cakes!)...
...after the party they went for another movie! Elio! Was a 3D movie. Leah said it was a good one. Said I would probably like it. I'll keep an eye out for it on streaming.
Along with the other pictures she sent I found this one she took of the front of my building to show me they had repainted the parking lot...and added another handicapped parking space (kind of in the center next to the striped lines). So now that is all the room there is for anyone to pull in to pick someone up or drop them off if the cars are parked on either side. Hardly room for a car--let alone if they have a walker or a wheelchair. Oh well. Nothing we can do about it. They didn't plan ahead very well.Anyways, not much happening here. R&R. Nothing else happened on the apartment yet. And then there's too much happening out in the world. I haven't been feeling decent enough to make it over to the house yet, either. (Still recovering from antibiotics--lol!) Not much to say. Been another week of pajama days--lol! Just how life is for now. Feeling a bit overwhelmed and beaten down still. A very short newsletter this week.
Oh, can't leave without a picture of Allie spying between the blinds one night. She loves to watch the rabbits running around in the dark.

I had similar facial surgery a couple of years ago, and that swelling and numbness took a few days to decrease. Feeling took longer to return but eventually it did and my face is as good as ever now. Low bar, I know! But I did feel depressed about it, hadn't realized how much my appearance mattered to me. It passed. Yours will too.
Exciting times around you lately. When they tell people to secure loose items, they mean it.
That trampoline could have certainly done a lot more damage! Sounds like you are recovering well, hopefully that progress continues and you are back to 100% soon!
I think they did a pretty good job on your lip, and I am hoping that the feeling comes back. You are through the worst time already, right? And I think you are doing well, all things considered. Thanks for the update on the apartment, which is still coming along, slowly. Hugs to you, dear friend.
At least you can still smile! We had a tornado alert a couple of days ago but we just got the high wind. It's been so hot I'm surprised storms aren't popping up regularly. I hope you get to feeling better so you can get to the apartment to supervise some of the remaining work soon.
Hi Rita, lovely views in your first two photos, nice celebration and cake, and Allie is beautiful.
Rita, nice to see that you were smiling after the bandage was removed and hpe that tie is all that's needed to make you feel back to 100%, or as close as possible 😀 Glad to read and see that the neighbor's trampoline did not do severe damage except tha it's now a goner. That was a long walk Ian had to retrieve the netting and a belated Happy Birthday. My brother took his granddaughter to that film. She liked it, but him not so much. Continue to getas much R&R as you can. It's a heat wave here for the next few days, so I am definitely staying indoors.
Rita your surgery came out good! I'll bet some more time will resolve some issues you have with it.. Most important thing! NO MORE CANCER! Alvin has been sick with a virus.. a rotavirus... man that is no joke! Wednesday will make a week that hes' been down with it.. even a trip to the ER for being dehydrated.. uuugh.. now that he's better i feel a little uuughh... but knowck on wood i won't get it as bad as him! .. Trampolines are dangerous during bad weather... I wonder if he had it tied down>>??Take care my friend! I received your lovely Birthday Card! My only one... Thank you so so much!! Hugs! deb
That was some storm on Friday night! Enderlin really got hit hard and people died. Your scars will heal a bit, did they tell you to massage the area? My dermatologist told me and it really helped. Hope you have a good week. Those people should have had the trampoline staked down there were plenty of warnings.
I'm glad you slept through the drama! And that the trampoline didn't do any more damage, and that your surgery is over and the healing is happening. Much love and hugs.
So glad the stitches are out. I like seeing you smile. And grateful that team McFamily (and you, for that matter!) were not injured by the tornado (though that flying trampoline would have been a bit of a shocker!) Glad the party was fun and the beet-protector found!
You look like you are healing well, yeah trampolines can get blown around during a storm, it's good it didn't cause too much damage and yeah that disable parking spot looks a bit small they are usually larger then normal spots, well they are here.
I'm sure you will be back to your normal smiling self soon. Glad the stitches are gone at least. What a trip that trampoline took. Glad not much was damaged. Hope you and Allie have a better week th9an last week, dear Rita.
Hi Rita. I am glad you are healing up after the skin cancer surgery. I love the picture of you smiling! So glad that you and McFamily were safe in that storm. Our daughter has a trampoline for her kids and her husband had a hole dug and put it in the ground so that the jumping surface is level with the ground. No more trampoline injuries or having the trampoline blown about in the wind. I hope you continue to rest and recover. See you again soon!
Pajama days are the way to go after recovering from surgery. Looks like it’s healing nicely. Doozy of a storm! We had our trees thrashing around one night (in northern Virginia) and a flood watch, but nothing like you must have had. So glad you were all okay through all that. The movies must have been fun and Leah’s cake is impressive! Continued healing and hugs heading your way :)
It looks like you're healing really well.
So glad that there wasn't more damage from that tornado. That would be scary
I can't write very much, new eye drops and everything is blurry. You look beautiful.
May I have your autograph, Miss Monroe? You look so good. Which movie will you star in next? Ian can have all the beets in the world. They are disgusting. I'm amazed he found his screen, undamaged. What a relief that the neighbor's trampoline didn't do all kinds of damage. I hope it didn't sound too frightening when it hit the house. That was quite a storm. The birthday cake was adorable and I bet it tasted good--a whole lot better than beets!!!
Love,
Janie
**Hang in there!** 🤕✨ Swelling and numbness are such a pain, but those zipping nerves sound like progress in disguise. Here's hoping each day brings a little more healing—and fewer "spilled drink" moments! 😆 You're doing great. 💪
Hi Rita, just popping in again to wish you a happy weekend and to thank you for stopping by my blog. Always enjoy and am appreciative of you visiting. Also hope your healing is continuing in the right direction and sending hugs.
