February 27, 2023 Monday--12:30am

Early morning again!

This week is mostly a ton of pictures.  Leah sent me a bunch of them from their trip to Vegas and I just picked random ones...don't ask me where they were--lol!  I was married (briefly) in Vegas at the justice of the peace--second marriage (only lasted a year).  Let's just say it was a long, long time ago.  I was 30 years old--1981.  Vegas looks just as bizarre but even flashier and more colorful!!  I didn't think that was possible--LOL!

I think Leah might have made sure she got a close up of these finches for me, but I don't know.
What a fancy aviary!

Even the ceilings were all movement and lights--so very flashy!
I didn't know Boba Fett was in Vegas--LOL!

Leah got a selfie with mini-Liberty.

At home we were having snow storms, wind chill advisories, and blizzards--LOL!

Michal on the left, Amber on the right poolside and Leah in a lounge chair.

Besides seeing Penn & Teller and eating at a fancy restaurant they drove very expensive cars around a track (got deals on Black Friday--lol!).
There was a better pic of Michal and Amber smiling but this picture was the one that cracked me up.  I love the spontaneous shots.

Another pic when not expecting it--concentration.  Not sure what they were doing.

Anyways, Leah said she had a really great time...even though she wasn't expecting people smoking everywhere...both cigarettes and grass (legal there).  Her asthma really kicked up a storm and she slept a lot when she got home...but she was better in a day or so.

Before she left--Liam would definitely think this was more important--Liam had a very loose tooth.
Pictures were sent to Gramma.
The tooth didn't come out until Mama was home again.
The one next to it is loose now, too.  The tooth fairy will be busy.  :)

Now, my pics from this week will seem pretty dull after Las Vegas and first tooth coming out...but I just took pics this week of the things that make me happy.
The Critter Cafe, of course.
And the critters really did need some help this last week with the cold temps and the snowstorms and blizzard winds.
Blooming flowers...
...always bring a smile in the dead of winter.
Really lifted my spirits this week, Janie!
More snow drifting on the patio.
Arctic hares stopping by for a nibble, too.
A small covey of six huddled behind a big snow clump up on the snowbank to protect themselves against the high winds.
More flower pics.
The whole place smells like spring!
And Miss Allie never fails to cheer my soul.
I got a notice that my Medicaid card was going to be canceled the end of the month because I never turned in my forms.  Was on hold for 45 minutes to find out that the Fargo office is at least six weeks behind...but yes, they did get my paperwork...BUT I no longer have a worker...so not only are they six weeks behind, but I will just get the next available worker who is free to deal with my forms.  This also means I probably won't have any money in my EBT account for food, either, in March.  That stack of paperwork was for both my Medicaid and EBT.  But it will get straightened out eventually.  Going to be fun to explain to Sanford that they will just have to wait and send bills through again in a month or two.  Luckily all places seem to work at a snail's pace--so they might not even notice. ??  Always something, eh?

I have basically felt pretty much the same--as far as both shingles and the side effects go.  So just hanging in there.  Watching shows.  Resting.  Waiting.  Enduring.  Feeding the critters.

I did eat the candy bars and cut out the fronts of the packages to put them on the frig.
Liam's.
Ian's.
So, for me it was a quiet, rather immobile week.
Waiting for all the shingles scabs to be gone.
Still have a rash, though...
...and the biting, stabbing, prickly pain.
So, I take it easy...and let the partridges be on alert.

I am soooo glad that I don't have any appointments to go to until March 20th!!  It still feels like I should have something soon.  After over a year and a half it is hard to change gears.  But I am so grateful to be left alone to just endure this crazy shingles stuff and that I don't have to do too much.  Laundry, nuking meals (Leah has dropped off foods!), feeding critters, and scooping the litter box.  That's about it for me.  Mostly watching shows and writing letters or, honestly, trying not to move.  The darn shingles could last for weeks, I guess.  I'm surprised at how even when most of the scabs are gone I still have a rash and all the pain.  I guess I just knew very little about shingles.  Wish I still didn't--LOL!

Anyways, it was a quiet week.  Keanna came to clean on Tuesday.  Leah is stopping by tomorrow with the boys to help me with a few things.  One of these days I'll be able to wear clothes again--lol!  Until then...be on R&R in Fargo.  :) :)  Till next week, my friends.

Hi Rita. It was fun to see Leah's pictures from Vegas. Vegas can be a fun place for sure, but it isn't my favorite place at all. Sorry for all the problems with your medicaid and EBT. Seems like everywhere is short staffed and behind - part of our society right now. I love the pictures of the flowers and Liam and his tooth. Sounds like this is a good time for you to be hunkering down and resting and healing up from shingles and everything else. I hope the week is a good one for you! See you again soon.

Aside from the smoke and pot, it looks like Leah and friends had a great Vegas getaway, good for all of them. I have been there only once, years ago, and it was amazing back then, but imagine even wilder now. Driving those expensive cars even if on a track must have been a lot of fun too. We are finally having frigid temps and even snow this last week of Feb, but not as cold as in ND. Nice to see the Arctic hares again and Allie, of course. Hope the shingles discomfort will be easing up soon, also that the Medicaid and EBT issues get sorted out.

Good selection of photos! It's nice to get away, and Las Vegas does seem to have things for everyone to enjoy. I've never been there though.
I'd not like the smoking either. :(
My youngest grand lost a tooth not too long ago.
Always like seeing the arctic hare. :)
Your flowers, and Allie, so beautiful!!
Here's hoping the shingles, and the pain, will be gone soon.
Rest well and have a good week, Rita!

That was quite the picture haul! Glad to hear you are slowly recovering, and that everyone seems to be hanging in there. :-)

Glad they had a great time, that Leah's asthma is back to normal now she's home and had some rest, and Liam's tooth didn't actually come out until they got home (yes, the tooth fairy is going to be busy). Also glad you got snow, and the scabs are starting to heal at least. I'm sure it feels wonderful to have such a long break between appointments, and actually feel like doing something again. Keep feeling better.

I'm excited to see the finches. I wish I had room for a large aviary.

The Vegas trip and losing teeth are much more exciting than anything in my life right now. As a matter of fact, your hare is more exciting than I get lol

My husband's grandmother had luck with 100% cotton clothing during and after her shingles. I hope you're recovered from it soon.

The Vegas photos are great! That place has really changed since the last time I saw it. I was only a child - - it was about a hundred years ago.....

The flowers are so beautiful - - a wonderful breath of spring in the midst of winter. I absolutely love the photo of the Arctic Hare! (and, of course, the snowbound feathered friends....and Allie).

R&R in the northeastern corner of the US too. Bandages came off today, all is going well. Loved Vegas, it is constantly changing. We've been twice. Hubs and Oldest are heading to Universal Orlando for Spring break...seems I couldn't find a "cheap enough" trip for his friends to commit to, so for (all in) $547 he and Hubs are heading down for some sunshine.

And I've said this before... Janie's the best. She also sent me recovery flowers. They smelled SO good!!! Love her!

Vegas has changed since I have been there I think it was about 1985 when I was there last. Those are some colorful photos compared to your snowy outdoors! From what people have told me the pain from shingles can last a long time, my cousins wife did not get any medication and suffered for years from the nerve pain. I hope the pain leaves you soon, Take care and enjoy your time off from appointments!

You have a far more interesting post today than I have. You lead a more interesting life, too. I have been to several of those places in Vegas. The first time I went was SO different from the last time I went. I've been at least five times and every time I go, things have changed.

Sounds like Leah had fun,, except for her asthma. I had forgotten about smoking is allowed everywhere. Marijuana wasn't legal the last time I was there, but smoking cigarettes was permitted everywhere.

We don't have Medicaid in KS, so I have no idea about it or what EBT is. Wow, that loose tooth of Liam's brought back memories of when I was a child.

I guess Medicaid doesn't pay for your cleaner, so that is a blessing. I still enjoy seeing the birds, even though they weren't the same as Vegas or a missing tooth.

Look at all the snow. It was sunny and in the mid 80s this afternoon. I still have a window open at 7:45 in the evening. I saw plenty of shingles in the nursing home. Some people never got over them before they died, but they also didn't receive much of any treatment for things because they were pretty much just waiting to die, and that is not the case with you! I know Vegas has a lot of shows and fun things to do, but I don't think I'd do well there. I'd be on sensory overload. In the photo where they're concentrating, I think they're playing some kind of game. I'm glad Leah had a good time. I was in a casino once near Seattle and the smoke made me feel sick to my stomach. The odor was terrible.

Love,
Janie

Vegas is one of those places I really don't like at all -- except as a venue for great photo shooting! And there are some good ones here. I'm glad you have time "time off." Sorely needed. Love that hare photo.

Those Vegas pictures were fun. I have never been there. I don't enjoy any form of gambling but I often thought it might be interesting just to go there and take a look and experience it as a phenomenon, if you know what I mean LOL! The shingles are yet another thing for you to deal with, that is such a painful affliction and I do hope it's better soon. As for the paperwork .... I've spent hours on paperwork this morning, too, what a way to spend your time eh? I admire your patience. I can see that tooth fairy is going to be busy - but it is so exciting when she comes, isn't it! LOL!

Prayers that you get better quickly......you have been through a lot!

Those critters must really appreciate the food in this cold weather! That car must have been fun to drive around that race track. It's been a few years since we've been to Vegas, might be time to return!
