Wednesday-11:30am: D

D is for Duh!!!
****
Okay, I know there will be guffaws and chortling from the peanut gallery, but I shall confess my ignorance and accept your derision. ;)
****
I must preface my confession with some facts. I have never owned one of those small musical storage devices like an iPod or an M3P player. (I just had to google M3P player so I would write it correctly because I keep wanted to call them MP3 players.) I mostly made the transition from cassettes to CDs, but have very few CDs, have never given up my vast cassette collection, and live in dire fear that soon you won't be able to even buy a cassette player because they are going the way of the 8-tracks. My dream is to one day have one of those contraptions that will transfer my cassettes to...well, something else. Now days it is not even to CDs, but into little machines or computers. I do know this and have heard these things.
****
Okay, this year one of my goals was to practice the Soul Comfort meditation/energy work every weekend, right? I was faithfully doing that at first. But then my enormous philodendron needed more room. It was on top of a bookcase and I couldn't even open the glass doors anymore. So I moved it down to the curio credenza behind the loveseat...where it is flourishing!
But, because of that shift, the boom box had to be evicted to the bookcase headboard in the bedroom.
Well, I am like Pavlov's dog when it comes to needing my Music To Disappear In...to be able fall into that state of being I need to reach. Silly, I know. But I learned how to meditate to that album...and then I learned how to do energy work to it...and then I used it when I did energy work as a volunteer at a couple churches in Minneapolis. Pavlov's dog, I tell you.
****
So, I tried lying in my bed so I could hear my music...but it hurts my back to lie flat in the first place (I am still recovering from the dentist's chair)...and I just wanted to go to sleep (give me a break, I do have chronic fatigue--LOL!). Then I tried using a bed pillow and sitting up in bed, but that was hell on my back, too. So, let's say doing the Soul Comfort kind of fell away.
****
I decided maybe the solution could be that I needed to get an M3P player with headphones and put my one album on it. That is all I'd need, right? I figured I'd have to buy it on iTunes or something...obviously don't know how these things work. So, I emailed Dagan and Leah to ask some questions about what would be a good M3P player to buy and where and how would I go about finding Music To Disappear In and put it on the new contraption?
****
DUH!!!
****
I can play my CD right on my laptop!
And my laptop can use headphones!
****
I know! Mortifying how technologically ignorant I am, isn't it?
****
DUH!!!
****
So, all this time I could have been doing my SC meditations on the weekends after I moved the boom box.
*can't stop giggling when I think about it*
****
DUH!! DUH!! DUH!!
****
Hopefully I have other life skills, right? LOL!
****
Have a great day! :):)

Rita, I have done this too. You know, the trouble is we are not 8 years old! If we were, we would have learned all this stuff from playing with our friends. I still can't believe the way kids understand apparently instinctively how everything like this works and they don't even need instructions for figuring out new programs. I am serious, some of them can't even READ yet!!!!!!!

Have to say I had never heard of M3P player, I always called it MP3, but I never got one all the same. Apparently my phone plays stuff but I've never much liked to have music going in the background so I have not investigated.

LOL!! I have 2 iPods hooked up to speakers. I have several thousand songs on them. I took my favorites from my CDs and put them in the computer and from there loaded them onto my iPods. A lot of time consumed but well worth the effort.
I hope you are recovered from your visit to the dentist.

Hey, don't be so hard on yourself. The lightbulb still came on - and that shows the gray matter still functions.

A little M*eee***eeeee*** player (thats how I say it 'cause I can't remember how it's spelled either!) still might be a nice way to go - they are so small, you could stick it in a shirt pocket.

Hi Karma!!! Hi big green plant!! Hi Homer Simpson!!

haha...rita, you're so funny!

your plant is doing GREAT!! thanks to the boom box for moving into the other room...THAT spot was meant for the philodendron!!

i really think those TINY m3p players are like one of the best inventions. to think you can fit hundreds of songs on just a
small (in GB) one! i use mine for WORK and PLAY! :)

LOL, Rita! I wouldn't have thought of playing the CD on the laptop! So glad your friends helped you to figure it out so you didn't have to buy an MP3 player. Son got me one for Christmas a few years back(iPOD shuffle). I have yet learned to put music on it, he has to do it, LOL, for me :)

MP3 players are relativity cheap to buy, and you can easily put all of your music in one place to listen to on ear-phones. I use them every night, I find I can't sleep in silence.
I would be lost without mine. And you can put your cassettes onto then quite easily, so you don't lose anything. It is a worth while investment.
Did you know that they are bringing back the old vinyl records? So, I guess it will be old record players again soon...Duh!

I keep thinking about getting an ipod or MP3 Player, but I can't bring myself to do it LOL! I don't know what my deal is. I'm glad you wrote this. I'm going to use my laptop too. I can't believe I didn't think of that LOL!!!!

I'm pretty sure they're called MP3 players. Most song downloads on the internet are in MP3 format. But anyway, since you don't need to buy one, you don't need to worry about one. ;)

I hope you recuperate from that dentist's chair soon. I know how your back must feel laying in it. They kill my neck and back, too.

Hope you had a good Wednesday. *hugs*

Just to humor you, I googled "m3p player" and the results were all for mp3 players, which is what they are called. As AK said, because they play mp3 files.

MP3 is short for MPEG-1 audio layer 3. MPEG is short for Moving Pictures Experts Group, which is a standard format for compressing, storing and transmitting digital video and audio.

We all have those moments, so don't feel bad! My older kids give me the "Duh, Mom!" look all the time, lol!

Cassette tapes? Seriously??? Sorry, that just tickled my funny bone. I didn't know anyone still using those!!!

As a point, if you decide to get an MP3 player or ipod, you'd be better off just going for the ipod; they live longer!
